Last updated: 23 October 2026
Printably respects your privacy and handles personal information in accordance with applicable South African law, including the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (“POPIA”).
In this notice, “Printably”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to the business operating the Printably website. This notice explains how we handle personal information when you visit our website, contact us or place an order.
1. Personal information we may collect
Depending on how you use our website and services, we may collect:
- Your name, email address, telephone number and delivery or collection details.
- Order details, payment status, correspondence and customer-support records.
- Images and other content you submit for a custom print.
- Information needed to operate and protect the website, such as technical logs and cookie data.
Payment card details are handled by the payment provider you choose at checkout. Printably does not store full payment-card details.
2. Why we use your information
We use personal information where reasonably necessary to:
- Process, produce and deliver your order.
- Contact you about an order, payment, delivery or support request.
- Maintain customer accounts and order records.
- Protect the website, prevent fraud and address misuse.
- Meet legal, tax, accounting and regulatory obligations.
- Send marketing communications where permitted. You can ask us to stop marketing messages at any time.
We do not use customer-uploaded photos in public galleries or advertising without separate permission.
3. Customer-uploaded photos
We use your photos to prepare, produce, quality-check and fulfil your order, handle related support requests and meet legal obligations. Access is limited to people who need the images for those purposes.
Our store package is designed to keep custom uploads in protected storage. It is also designed to delete abandoned uploads after 14 days and order photos 14 days after an order is marked complete. Other order records may be kept for longer where needed for legal, tax, accounting or dispute-resolution purposes.
4. When information may be shared
We may share the information needed to complete a transaction with service providers such as payment processors, couriers, website hosting and technical support providers. They may use the information only to provide services to us or as otherwise permitted by law.
We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect our rights or the rights of others, or to investigate suspected fraud or misuse.
5. Safeguards and retention
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards intended to protect personal information against loss, unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration or destruction. No website or electronic storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described above, unless a longer period is required or permitted by law. When information is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to delete it or securely dispose of it.
6. Your rights and requests
Subject to applicable law, you may ask us to:
- Confirm whether we hold personal information about you and request access to it.
- Correct or update information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Delete information that we are no longer authorised to retain.
- Object to certain processing or withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
- Stop sending you direct marketing communications.
We may need to verify your identity before responding. Some information may need to be retained where the law requires it or where it is needed to establish, exercise or defend a legal claim.
